In addition to her current collections, Iona offers a bespoke millinery service for when you have a specific design in mind or an outfit to match. Each bespoke commission is made to order, by hand, so please allow four to six weeks for production. Prices for bespoke pieces start from £400.
THE PROCESS
The initial fitting normally takes place at Iona’s studio in Brixton and will take approximately 30-40 minutes. However, allow for an hour so that you can try on lots of styles and this will give Iona time to get to know you and discuss what you plan to wear and your requirements for the perfect piece.
During this fitting, we initially look at pieces from current collections as a point of reference. This helps Iona see which styles best suit you, which materials you most like, and which techniques best complement the outfit and occasion. Once we have decided on a shape, Iona will suggest a variety of different trim and colour options. Please do bring any fabric swatches or the outfit itself to the fitting so that Iona can have a good reference to match the colours. Iona also offers a bespoke dyeing service so you can be sure to have the perfect colour match with you outfit.
After this initial meeting, Iona will work out a costing and will send an invoice for a deposit of 50% of the total cost for your bespoke design. Once the deposit has been paid Iona will start ordering materials and will crack on with making the hat.
Iona will keep you updated and you will have the opportunity to have a second appointment to check sizing and fit if you so wish. Otherwise Iona will send you photos of your bespoke design when it is at the stage of being trimmed. Iona will have sampled different trim designs and will have created something unique and in keeping with your outfit and style. However, as the trim is only pinned at this stage, any alterations or additions can be made.
Once the trim has been confirmed and you are happy with the hat, Iona will finishing stitching and get your design boxed up and ready to go! The remaining balance of 50% is paid at this stage prior to delivery.
A lot of Iona’s clients are not necessarily regular hat-wearers and therefore her main focus is to make them feel as confident as possible. It is the understanding of her clients needs, the outfit, the occasion, and most importantly, how the client wants to look and feel on the day which makes an Iona Montgomery bespoke design so successful.
